Catch me if you can title sequence- Charley

Catch me if you can- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaLDyrun_Cc

After studying the title sequence I have discovered that there is alot more to title sequences than meets the eye.

Catch me if you can is a film based on a boy who leaves home at an early age and commits fraud, he pretends to be a doctor and piolet and moves from place to place, whilst changing his identity so that he is not caught, however  a detective gets closer and closer to him and eventually catches him. This movie follows his journey.

The colours used in this title sequence are a light blue background with black text and  black cartoon images over the top so that it stands out of the blue. The images on the sequence is the text of those in the movie and images of the main character of the film and the dective. Straight black lines are used to create the text in the sequence, the lines then become part of what the main character is doing, as he walks along the screen the lines are used as barriers and represent time, as he steps through the line he changes into the next occupation he is in the movie as he carries on his journey of fraud. So as i have discorved the lines act as barries in his life and the only way he can get through them is if he changes into someone else.

As the clip moves on it becomes more apparent that the title sequence is a short cartoon version of the actual movie, without giving away any details thatt would spoil the movie. As the title sequence carries on he moves from the airport, to a car journey in new york taxis, then to being at a pool and lastly to being a doctor. As he goes on trough the movie, more and more barriers appear causing him to change his identity again. The title sequence goes thourgh the stages of the movie and each black line takes him to a knew part of the journey.

The titles sequence as a whole gives the audience an insight into the film and makes the audience start asking questions such as 'why is he changing characters?' and 'Who and why is he being chased?' Getting the audience to ask questions is the creators of the movies main aim.

The music used is 'sly' and 'sneeky', the tempo is slow at the start until the title sequence progresses and the music gets faster, this connotates with the movie as the main character is being chased by a detective and as the story contiues the detective gets closer, therefore the tempo in the titles sequence increases.

I have now realised that this title sequensed was based on the work of saul bass, here is a link to what i discovered about him http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saul_Bass
